Mayor Deegan's River City Readers
L
ess than half of 3rd graders are reading on grade level, so improving literacy rates is a top priority for Mayor Deegan and her administration. It’s an economic development issue, a public safety issue, and a quality-of-life issue for the entire city.
Let’s get DUUUVAL reading! Mayor Deegan’s River City Readers is an ongoing citywide literacy challenge for school aged children.
Join the Reading Challenge
Mayor Deegan challenges all of Jacksonville to download a free app called Beanstack. Through this app, children and their caregivers will be able to log their reading minutes with an individual goal of reading at least 20 minutes per day.
Upcoming Events
The Mayor will conduct monthly literacy events throughout 2025 - and beyond - at schools, libraries, and community centers, to promote the importance of literacy. She's also rolling out a branded bookmobile and taking it throughout the city for events.
