River City Readers

In an effort to increase public safety as well as literacy rates, Mayor Deegan started the River City Readers program. With this program, both children and adults can take part in reading challenges through the Beanstack app. Together as a City, we aim to reach a goal of 1 million minutes by the end of the year and are on track to meet this goal. Since the start of the program in January we have had more than 650 readers sign up, with the majority of users registering being between the ages of 6 and 10. On average, users have read over 10 hours per person.

Remember 20 minutes of reading a day paves the way for a brighter future. Let’s exceed our goal of 1,000,000 minutes for the year.
