The Jacksonville City Council 2019-2020 officers, Scott Wilson (president) and Tommy Hazouri (vice president), and Council members will be installed during a ceremony at the Times Union Center for Performing Arts (300 Water St. – 32202) at 6 p.m.

Today Mayor Curry announces that Stephanie Burch, current Director of the Neighborhoods Department, will become Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Jacksonville, effective July 1. Burch will work closely with Brian Hughes, who was selected as Chief Administrative Officer earlier this year.

The City of Jacksonville's Animal Care & Protective Services has launched a paw-some new website.

The City’s Environmental Quality Division (EQD) is launching a stormwater pond study as part of its continuous efforts to improve the city’s water quality. Jacksonville will be one of the first cities in Florida to use Microbe-Lift, a blend of specially formulated strains of bacteria manufactured for use by landscape, irrigation and pond professionals, with the purpose of significantly reducing the amount of total Nitrogen in stormwater ponds.

In this video, Mayor Lenny Curry answers questions about a proposed half-cent sales tax for school maintenance proposed by the Duval County School Board. The proposal is currently under review by the Jacksonvile City Council. 

A formerly vacant, city-owned property in Springfield is getting new life this week.

For younger kids, ages 5-12, JaxParks's Rec N’ Roll program offers opportunities to explore nature, participate in sports, create art and attend field trips. Doors are open at 15 sites from 10:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, now through August 2, 2019.

National Mosquito Control Awareness Week (June 23 – 29) is an observation dedicated to educating the general public about the significance of mosquitoes in their daily lives and the important services provided by mosquito control workers throughout the United States.

The lights are on after dark at several community centers and pools throughout Jacksonville. Every Friday and Saturday, now through August 3, 2019 teens ages 13-18 can visit 10 JaxParks locations from 6 - 10 p.m. for free food, music, swimming, basketball and more.

Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) wants to keep pets with their owners using a $50,000 grant from PetSmart Charities^®, the leading funder of animal welfare in North America. The money will expand ACPS’ Pet Safety Net Program, a pet retention initiative that provides resources — including supplies, animal behavioral training, funds for medical care and housing solutions — to residents in an effort to decrease the number of animals surrendered to the shelter.
