Call for Volunteers for Earth Day Downtown Cleanup

The City’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission (KJB) and its partners, Hyatt Regency Jacksonville and Downtown Vision, Inc., are seeking volunteers for the 7th annual Earth Day Downtown Cleanup. Volunteers will join representatives from local businesses to pick up litter in the area inside of Liberty, Water, Jefferson and Church streets. Additionally, KJB will partner with the Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council (SPAR) to spruce up Union and State streets from North Market Street to Main Street.

The Mayor’s Victim Assistance Advisory Council (VAAC), in partnership with local nonprofits and organizations, will host weeklong events to recognize crime victims as part of Jacksonville’s observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 7 - 13. This observance aims to bring awareness to the struggle of victims in the Jacksonville community, while recognizing the importance of helping those who have been victimized rebuild their lives, and the services and programs available to assist them.

Kitten Season is Coming

In an effort to reduce the growing pet population that occurs during the spring and summer, citizens are encouraged to spay or neuter their cat(s), including outdoor community cats.

Animal Care and Protective Services Receives $400,000 Grant, Surprise Party

The team, volunteers and pets at Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) received BIG expressions of love with the award of a $400,000 grant presented by the Petco Foundation A national nonprofit working to inspire and lead change for animals, Petco representatives made a surprise visit to the City’s animal shelter to host a Valentine’s Day celebration, complete with a catered lunch, gifts for ACPS pets, staff and volunteers and an oversized check for $400,000. The grant award is part the more than $14 million investment the Petco Foundation is making in animal welfare organizations across the nation.
