Volunteers Needed for the 2019 Florida Coastal Cleanup

The City of Jacksonville’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission invites residents to join one of the world’s largest water protection efforts by contributing to the 2019 Florida Coastal Cleanup. On Saturday, Sept. 21, volunteers can visit various locations in the city to remove trash and debris from beaches, lakes and rivers; start and end times vary by location. Event leaders will be available at each site to register volunteers and provide materials, including bags and gloves.

Know Your Evacuation Zone

Duval County’s local emergency preparedness measures are always being improved and updated. This includes a significant change in the statewide approach to evacuation zones. In the past, evacuation zones have been primarily based on the category of the approaching storm. New scientific data that includes other factors, such as wave action, precipitation, and areas known to flood, has allowed us to better define evacuation zones for Duval County. Evacuation zones are based on a lettering system, with A,B,C,D,E, and F Zones.

Evacuation Shelters are a refuge of last resort and should only be considered if you NEED to evacuate and have NO OTHER OPTIONS.  If you can safely shelter in place, stay with friends or family, or stay in a hotel, it is recommended that you do so.

The City of Jacksonville is excited to announce the inaugural Duuuval’s Bold City Bash – the ultimate Florida-Georgia fan experience. The Bash encompasses nearly a week of fan-centric interactive events that celebrate the tradition and excellence of one of the SEC’s biggest rivalries that has called Jacksonville home since 1933. Duuuval’s Bold City Bash will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 29 and continue through game day on Saturday, Nov. 2.
 

City Receives $1.4 Million FEMA Grant to Bolster Emergency Preparedness Efforts

Jacksonville is one of eight local governments receiving grant funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for assistance in developing innovative regional solutions for emergency preparedness. The City has been awarded $1,401,975 to support logistics and supply chain operations providing food, water, and shelter to area residents following a disaster.
