The St. Johns River

The St. Johns River, which has been designated as an American Heritage River by the Environmental Protection Agency, is the longest river in the state of Florida and its most significant one for commercial and recreational use. Riverwalks are located on the north and south banks of the St. Johns River in Downtown Jacksonville. Open since 1985 the Riverwalks are a venue where tourists and local residents can view the beauty of the river and the skyline of the city.

Mayor Announces Nationally-Recognized Advocate As Kids Hope Alliance Chair

Mayor Lenny Curry announced today that Kevin Gay will serve as chair of the Kids Hope Alliance (KHA). Launched in August, KHA was created to strengthen and bolster programs and services that meet the critical needs of Jacksonville children. Gay is one of six mayoral board appointees approved at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

Rethink. Reset. Recycle.

According to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, approximately 30 percent of all household materials recycled in Florida are not recyclable at curbside, leading to the shutdown of processing centers for hours at a time each day.

The “Rethink. Reset. Recycle” campaign is designed to educate Floridians about curbside recycling, and a reminder to Floridians about the basics of curbside recycling which includes clean and dry aluminum and steel cans, plastic bottles and jugs, paper and cardboard.

City Offices and Facilities Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Area Added More Than 15,000 New Jobs Over the Year

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Jacksonville area added 15,600 new private-sector jobs in the last year. Jacksonville’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.3 percent in October, down 1.4 percentage points from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 127,400 new jobs in October and the unemployment rate dropped to 3.6 percent, the lowest rate since February 2007. Since December 2010, Florida businesses have created 1,448,300 new private-sector jobs.
