Mayor Lenny Curry is encouraging Jaguars fans to take part in a citywide “Sack the Steelers Send-off” in a show of support for the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of their AFC Divisional Round matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday.

This afternoon, Mayor Lenny Curry joined Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Bills fans via Skype for good-natured banter in support of their respective NFL team. During the conversation, a wager was made -- a Jacksonville win will score us Buffalo wings and beer, a Buffalo win will earn them homegrown favorites, Firehouse subs and Intuition beer. We look forward to chowing down on wings.

First 400 attendees to receive commemorative item

The City of Jacksonville will resume normal government operations tomorrow. This announcement was made by Mayor Lenny Curry, following a National Weather Service update.

In observance of the New Year’s holiday, many city government offices and facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 1.

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Jacksonville area added 18,400 new private-sector jobs in the last year. Jacksonville’s unemployment rate was 3.6 percent in November, down 1.1 percentage points from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 13,900 new jobs in November and the unemployment rate remained at 3.6 percent, the lowest rate in more than a decade. Since December 2010, Florida businesses have created 1,465,800 new private-sector jobs.
