The Jacksonville City Council is seeking Duval County residents to serve on local boards and commissions. Citizen board members play an integral role in local government by providing advisory and regulatory oversight on a variety of important issues. Board members are volunteers who are appointed by City Council or the Mayor to serve for a term with a set end date. This is a unique and fulfilling way to serve your community and become more engaged with local government.

Appointment applications are kept on file for two years. All attempts are made to place applicants on their primary board of interest, but an appointment offer could be made to serve on another board to which the applicant is qualified to serve.
Once a candidate has been selected, they will be emailed confirmation. Then, legislation to confirm the appointment will be introduced. The candidate will receive a letter from the Legislative Services Division indicating the appointment bill number and the date and time the candidate will need to appear before the Rules Committee.
The Rules Committee reviews all Board and Commission appointments. Appointees are expected to reach out to the Rules Committee members by phone or in person prior to the committee meeting. Appointees must appear at the Rules Committee meeting when their legislation is scheduled to be taken up for consideration. At the meeting, appointees will be asked to introduce themselves and provide a brief statement about their background.
After the appointment legislation is approved by the Rules Committee, it will be confirmed by the full Council at the next bi-monthly City Council meeting.
**Please note: Attendance is an essential part of serving on one of the City's Boards or Commissions. Many of the boards meet monthly and require a quorum in order to meet. **
Ethics Training Schedule
All Boards and Commissions members must attend an ethics training session within the first 6 months of appointment confirmation. Training sessions are held in the Lynwood Roberts Room located on the 1st Floor of the St. James Building, 117 W. Duval St, Jacksonville, FL 32202.
