Earth Day Downtown Cleanup

*Volunteers are asked to gather at the front steps off Independent Drive promptly at 8 a.m. for sign-in.

The city’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful (KJB) Commission, along with Downtown Vision, Inc. and the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront, are organizing the first Earth Day Downtown Cleanup. Residents and volunteers, along with support from local businesses, will pick up litter in the area bordered by Liberty, Water, Jefferson and Church streets. Gloves, bags and other cleanup supplies will be provided by KJB.

Free Career Counseling Sessions for Veterans

The City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs, Veteran and Disabled Services (MAVDS) department will host free career and employment counseling seminars for veterans and active duty military within one year of transition, as part of the City’s commitment to assisting veterans in securing employment. The session will be provided by Incepture, Inc., a leading staffing and managed solutions company in Jacksonville and a member of the City of Jacksonville/Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition (JMVC) “Jobs for Vets” initiative.

One Spark

The City of Jacksonville Senior Services Division is hosting its annual Foster Grandparent appreciation luncheon to honor and recognize 79 seniors who have served as Foster Grandparents to children in the past year.

Ribbon Cutting: ACPS Outdoor Play Area

The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) will host a ribbon cutting to celebrate and dedicate a new outdoor play area made possible by a $10,000 anonymous donation to Friends of Jacksonville Animals (FOJA). FOJA is a nonprofit that works directly with ACPS to benefit shelter animals. The group is gifting the outdoor play area, including the cost of construction, to ACPS.

The City of Jacksonville Human Rights Commission is hosting its annual Fair Housing Symposium this Saturday. This free event is one of eleven Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)-funded activities taking place in the city to celebrate National Community Development (NCD) Week. NCD Week is an annual campaign emphasizing the local and national success of the CDBG program.

Animal Care News Conference

The City of Jacksonville’s Animal Care and Protective Services will host a press conference where the Best Friends Animal Society, a nonprofit based in Utah, will present local pet partners with checks totaling $550,000. The Jacksonville Humane Society and First Coast No More Homeless Pets will each be presented with the grants in support of their work with ACPS to help make the local shelter community No-Kill.

National Community Development Week

The City of Jacksonville will join communities across the nation in celebrating National Community Development (NCD) Week, April 1 – 6. It is an annual campaign emphasizing the success, at the national and local level, of the contributions of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. CDBG is a federal formula entitlement grant awarded annually to the city through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
