Free Veteran Career Counseling Sessions

The City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs, Veteran and Disabled Services (MAVDS) department will host free career and employment counseling seminars for veterans and active duty military within one year of transition, as part of the City’s commitment to assisting veterans in securing employment. The session will be provided by Incepture, Inc., a leading staffing and managed solutions company in Jacksonville and a member of the City of Jacksonville/Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition (JMVC) “Jobs for Vets” initiative.

"Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield" Navy Excercises

NAS Jacksonville and NS Mayport will participate in national-level “Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield” exercises from Feb. 19 through March 4. These annual anti-terrorism/force protection exercises are designed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy security forces for responses to threats against installations and units, and will be conducted on all naval installations in the continental United States.

Philadelphia Union Major League Soccer Game

U.S. Women's National Soccer Team vs. Scotland

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, with broadcast information to be announced at a later date. The announcement adds to a growing list of events that are each raising the profile of professional soccer in Jacksonville. Last May, the U.S. Men’s National Team helped to draw a crowd of more than 45,000 fans to EverBank Field to break a regional attendance record for a match of its kind. Last week, Mayor Alvin Brown announced a Major League Soccer presence in Jacksonville through a three-year agreement with the Philadelphia Union to play annual exhibition matches starting Feb. 15.

30th Anniversary of Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission

The Keep Jacksonville Beautiful (KJB) Commission will host an educational fundraiser to honor Florida Times-Union columnist Ron Littlepage for his work to promote a cleaner environment. The event will also recognize site captains, sponsors, volunteers, partners and organizations for their efforts to beautify Jacksonville during KJB events last year.
