The City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board (EPB) and the University of North Florida will present the 2013 Environmental Symposium August 23 at UNF’s Adam W. Herbert University Center. The annual event, sponsored by the UNF Environmental Center and the EPB, brings together members of the community to interact with the regulatory agencies responsible for developing and implementing environmental policy.
With the theme of “Innovation, Conservation and Sustainability,” the symposium offers a number of sessions featuring information and best practices presented by residents, regulatory officials and environmental industry professionals. Information about registration can be found at www.coj.net/epb.

The River Accord 2013 Annual Report will be released at the symposium. The St. Johns River Accord is a 10-year, $700 million cooperative local, state and regional initiative to restore the lower basin of the St. Johns River. The River Accord includes investments for river access, upgrading wastewater treatment facilities and expanding reuse efforts, phasing out failing septic tanks, and improving stormwater utility infrastructure.

The 2013 State of the River Report will also be released at the symposium. This report describes the health of the Lower St. Johns River Basin based on a number of broad indicators including water quality, fisheries, aquatic life and contaminants. The full report will also be made available online at www.sjrreport.com
