Jacksonville Area Added 19,000 New Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that Jacksonville area businesses added 19,000 new private-sector jobs over the year in April. Jacksonville’s unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in April, down 0.6 percentage point from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 15,000 new jobs in April and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.5 percent, the lowest since November 2007. Since December 2010, Florida businesses have created 1,355,700 new private-sector jobs.

Household Hazardous Waste and E-Waste Mobile Collection Event

With a focus on eliminating blight in our neighborhoods, the City of Jacksonville offers citizens opportunities and events that encourage appropriate disposal of waste and other debris throughout Jacksonville. One of these many efforts is through the Solid Waste Division, which is hosting a household hazardous waste (HHW) and electronic waste (e-waste) mobile collection event Saturday, May 20.

City Wins Pension Referendum Lawsuit

This afternoon, the City of Jacksonville was granted its Motion for Summary Judgment on all seven counts in a lawsuit filed challenging the City’s pension referendum. Following a May 2 hearing, the Circuit Court judge issued the order in the City’s favor, while denying all counts from Plaintiffs Andrews, Benham, Gray, Price, and Wilcox.
