Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park Announces 2021 UNF Sculpture Project

Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park and the UNF Sculpture Department are excited to announce the new installation of sculptures created by students.  The UNF Sculpture Project originally launched in 2019 as a collaboration between Friends of James Weldon Johnson Park and the UNF Sculpture Department and made possible from a generous donation from the Haskell Foundation. 

Jacksonville Jazz Festival Moving to this Fall

The City of Jacksonville is taking the Jacksonville Jazz Festival back to its original roots and hosting the 40th Anniversary this fall. The festival will kick off with the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition presented by Keyboard Connection - The Piano Place on September 29 at the Florida Theatre, and continue October 1-3 with two stages of live, free entertainment. The City of Jacksonville appreciates the community’s support of the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and is looking forward to groovin’ with everyone this fall.

Need a summer job? Training is available NOW to recertify lifeguards and for new lifeguards!

Join JaxParks Aquatics in becoming a lifeguard this summer.  Whether your last certification is eligible to be recertified or whether you are interested in a new opportunity to be a lifeguard, there is training for you. The recertification course is for returning guards whose certification is about to expire.  The full course, is a week long course with all instruction on site.  This is for new guards that have never been certified or guards whose certification is expired.  The hybrid course is the same as the full course however the guards would do classroom work online and only report to the pool for the in water portion of the training.

Those looking for an egg-cellent new pet can visit the ACPS shelter (2020 Forest St. – 32204). This event is open to the public on Friday from 12 p.m – 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday hours are from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. City license fees may apply.

City of Jacksonville Announces Details & Application Process for Mortgage Relief Program

The City of Jacksonville’s Housing and Community Development Division will distribute more than $4 million of federal funds to Duval County residents who are unable to pay their mortgage payments due to a loss of income related to COVID-19. The Mortgage Relief Program will begin accepting applications on Wednesday, March 31, at 8 a.m.
