Mustangs and Free Family Fun Day at the Jacksonville Equestrian Center

The Jacksonville Equestrian Center is pleased to offer the local community a day packed full of free activities and exhibitions on Saturday, May 20. Nearly everything will be totally free, and there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Head to the Jacksonville Equestrian Center to meet real wild mustangs, watch horses perform exciting feats, jump in a bounce house, get face painting and balloon animals, see a vintage mustang car show, go for pony rides, meet animals in the petting zoo, swim in an Olympic-sized pool, win prizes, and more.

Thousands Expected At Annual Senior Expo

The Senior Services Division is hosting its 21st annual Senior Expo on May 17 – 18 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center, 1000 Water Street. An estimated 4,000 seniors, their families and caregivers are expected to attend.

City Wins Pension Referendum Lawsuit

This afternoon, the City of Jacksonville was granted its Motion for Summary Judgment on all seven counts in a lawsuit filed challenging the City’s pension referendum. Following a May 2 hearing, the Circuit Court judge issued the order in the City’s favor, while denying all counts from Plaintiffs Andrews, Benham, Gray, Price, and Wilcox.

Duval County residents (proof of residency is required)can receive a cash REWARD for their efforts to help clean up and dispose of old tires and “snipe” signs found throughout the city. Jacksonville Area Added Nearly 24,000 Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Jacksonville area added 23,700 new private-sector jobs over the year in March. The area’s unemployment rate was 4.1 percent in March, down 0.5 percentage point from one year ago. In the last year, Florida businesses created 233,800 new jobs, bringing the total number of new jobs added since December 2010 to 1,353,000.

Volunteers Needed for 5th Annual Earth Day Downtown Cleanup

While fight blight efforts are a consistent part of Mayor Lenny Curry’s administration, the City’s Keep Jacksonville Beautiful Commission and Hyatt Regency are teaming up to host a cleanup in observance of Earth Day (April 22). Volunteers are needed for the fifth annual event that will include a cleanup of areas inside of Liberty, Water, Jefferson and Church streets. 

City Celebrates National Community Development Week

The City of Jacksonville will join communities throughout the nation to observe National Community Development (NCD) Week, April 17 - 22, recognizing the contributions and successful outcomes of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. CDBG is a federal formula entitlement grant awarded annually to the City through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. NCD Week is observed to raise awareness about the benefits provided to the community through various CDBG programs.
