This year’s National Preservation Month (May 2017) theme, “This Place Matters,” hopes to answer this through the National Trust for Historic Preservation's nationwide photo campaign encouraging people to celebrate the places in their communities that are most meaningful to them.

Jacksonville Area Gained More Than 25,000 Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Jacksonville area added 25,200 new private-sector jobs over the year in February. The area’s unemployment rate was 4.5 percent in February, down 0.1 percentage point from one year ago. In the last year, Florida businesses created 239,800 new jobs, bringing the total number of new jobs added since December 2010 to 1,346,200.

City to host "Farm to Faith" Event with Clara White Mission

Initiative Seeks to Bring Healthy Food Options and Awareness to Food Deserts in Jacksonville

March is National Nutrition Month and the City of Jacksonville is celebrating with Farm to Faith, a Journey to One initiative developed by the City of Jacksonville to address food deserts and health disparities in communities throughout the city. Following the 7:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. services at Abyssinia Missionary Baptist Church, the Clara White Mission, will make its White Harvest Farms’ fresh fruits and vegetables available to congregants. This is the second time the City of Jacksonville has partnered with the Clara White Mission, and UF Extension office for Farm to Faith. At last year’s event, more than 1,500 pallets of fresh fruits and vegetables were sold at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church. This event culminates a weekend of health activities hosted by the Duval County Health Department and National Diabetes Office.

Jacksonville Area Added Nearly 18,000 Jobs Over Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that Jacksonville area businesses created 17,900 new private-sector jobs over the year in January. The area’s unemployment rate was 5.2 percent in January. Florida businesses created 260,600 new private-sector jobs across the state in the last year, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,343,100.

Daylight Savings Time Reminder

The City of Jacksonville Environmental Quality Division reminds Duval County residents that as they set their clocks forward one hour Sunday for daylight saving time, they should once again set lawn and landscape irrigation schedules to no more than two days per week.

FDOT-funded study to examine downtown access, safety, and bike/pedestrian features

Following a meeting with Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced it will conduct a $250,000 study of downtown access to and from the Hart Bridge. Mayor Curry has championed the prospect of upgrading the 50 year old bridge by replacing its ramps.

The Jacksonville Ethics Commission is currently accepting applications for a vacancy on the Ethics Commission. The Ethics Commission has a long, distinguished history in the City of Jacksonville of ensuring transparent and open government for the citizens.  Among its many outstanding accomplishments, the Ethics Commission has drafted and implemented the Jacksonville Ethics Code and successfully assisted in the establishment of an independent Office of Ethics, Compliance and Oversight that is primarily responsible for administering the Ethics Code.
