Daylight Savings Time Reminders

The City of Jacksonville Environmental Quality Division reminds Duval County residents that as they set their clocks forward one hour for Daylight Savings Time, they should once again set lawn and landscape irrigation schedules to no more than two days per week.

Kitten Season is Coming

Last year, more than 6,000 kittens were served by Animal Care and Protective Services and the Jacksonville Humane Society. In an effort to reduce the growing pet population that occurs during the spring and summer, citizens are encouraged to spay or neuter their cat(s), including outdoor community cats.

Summer Jobs Program Accepting Applications

The application for the Mayor's Youth at Work Partnership Summer Jobs Program is available online now through March 30. The program is open to young adults ages 16-21 who are interested in gaining valuable career skills and experiences.

Volunteers Needed for the 24th Annual St. Johns River Celebration

Volunteers are needed for the 24th Annual St. Johns River Celebration cleanup event. Participants will spend the morning collecting litter and debris from 34 pre-selected riverfront and inland sites around the city.

For decades, the location of the Jacksonville Landing has served as a central fixture in the city’s downtown. As the future of downtown continues to be envisioned, it is important for stakeholders to always consider new possibilities. With that in mind, Jacksonville Landing Investments (JLI) and Mayor Curry on behalf of Jacksonville have entered into a Settlement Agreement for the terms by which the Jacksonville Landing and the property at its location would see their best and highest use realized. Both parties agree that with the future of Jacksonville shining so bright, now is the time to forge this path forward.

Animal Care and Protective Services Receives $400,000 Grant, Surprise Party

February 14, 2019
The team, volunteers and pets at Animal Care and Protective Services (ACPS) received BIG expressions of love with the award of a $400,000 grant presented by the Petco Foundation A national nonprofit working to inspire and lead change for animals, Petco representatives made a surprise visit to the City’s animal shelter to host a Valentine’s Day celebration, complete with a catered lunch, gifts for ACPS pets, staff and volunteers and an oversized check for $400,000. The grant award is part the more than $14 million investment the Petco Foundation is making in animal welfare organizations across the nation.

Jax Book Fest Expecting Record Crowds for R.L. Stine

Jax Book Fest returns to the Main Library Feb. 23 with its biggest headlining author yet. Guinness World record-breaking, internationally best-selling author of the Goosebumps series, R.L. Stine, will speak and sign books. Mike Thaler, author of the Black Lagoon series, will also be speaking and signing books. Nearly 100 local and national best-selling authors and literary vendors representing every genre from fiction to mystery to romance, for every age group from toddlers to teens to adults, will be in attendance selling and signing books.
 

City Council and Mayor Partner to Form Storm Resiliency & Infrastructure Development Review Committee

Mayor Curry and VyStar Propose Partnership for Veterans Memorial Arena Naming Rights

Mayor Lenny Curry and Brian E. Wolfburg, President/CEO of VyStar Credit Union, announced that a naming rights agreement has been reached between VyStar and the City of Jacksonville for the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena – a first for the arena. Legislation to enact the agreement has been filed and sent to the Jacksonville City Council. Pending City Council approval, the arena will be known as VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
