Mayor's Disability Council

The Mayor's Disability Council is a diverse group of people; approximately 80 percent represent the disabled population. The 13 member board was created in 1989. These council members volunteer their time and expertise to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. This council works hand in hand with the Disabled Services Division.

Mission Statement

The purposes of the Jacksonville Mayor's Disability Council (MDC) are to provide a public forum for persons, groups and businesses to present their disability problems, concerns and successes, and to acknowledge work done well. The MDC shall be responsible for timely reports of same to the Jacksonville mayor.

The MDC meets every first Tuesday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room, 4th Floor of City Hall (St. James Building). Requests for accommodations should be made to the Disabled Services Division three business-days prior to the meeting. The public is encouraged to attend. Please contact the office prior to the day of the meeting to confirm time and location as changes do occur from time to time.

MDC Meeting Schedule

The following dates are the Mayor's Disability Council scheduled meetings for the 2024 year. The MDC will meet on the first Tuesday of each month in the Mayor's Conference Room, 4th Floor of City Hall (St. James Building). All of the scheduled MDC meetings are held at 3:00 p.m. and will run no longer than 5:00 p.m., with the exception of the January MDC Planning Meeting, which will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Changes in dates, times, or location could occur. Mayor's Disability Council Community Employee of the Quarter

Employees with disabilities diversify many businesses, agencies and organizations in Jacksonville. The Mayor's Disability Council has created the Community Employee of the Quarter Award to recognize and promote examples of excellence in the Jacksonville disability workforce. The nomination process is easy. You may either nominate yourself, a hard working employee or a co-worker that you believe represents excellence for people with disabilities working in Jacksonville. Quarterly winners will be invited to the Mayor's Disability Council Meeting to accept their award. With permission, a picture of the winner and their story will be posted here to inspire others.

This award is to acknowledge persons with disabilities who work in the community despite their disability. We applaud their efforts and he difference they make in the Jacksonville community.
