Mayor John Peyton, City Council Member Denise Lee and the City of Jacksonville's Recreation and Community Services Department (JaxParks) held a groundbreaking ceremony June 10 for the expansion of the Clanzel T. Brown Community Center.
The ceremony marks the beginning of the expansion of the existing community center. The 6,000 square-foot center, which currently serves children and seniors, will have an additional 3,500 square-feet added that will allow for the seniors to have a dedicated space separate from the youth area. The project will also relocate the existing kitchen so that it can be accessible for both user groups.
The expansion is expected to be completed by late spring of 2010.
