Team Wins Pop Warner Midget Division National Championship
On Saturday, December 8th the Sweetwater Athletic Association Pop Warner football team (Midget Division – ages 12-15) defeated the Northwest Raiders Midget Team from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by a score of 30-0 to win the Pop Warner Division 1 Midget National Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
The Sweetwater Eagles, coached by Donny Moore, defeated the Hyde Park Cowboys of Massachusetts by a score 31-0 in the quarterfinals on Sunday, December 2nd and the Almaden Mustangs from California by a score of 32-6 in the semi-finals on Wednesday, December 5th to set up the championship game against the Northwest Raiders.
The Jacksonville City Council will present a resolution introduced by district Council Member Reginald Brown (District 10) honoring the championship to the team at its meeting on Tuesday, December 11th at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chamber of City Hall, 117 W. Duval Street downtown.
