Coast Guard Inspection

January 04, 2016

On January 5, 2016, the ferry will begin an inspection and overhaul as periodically required by the United States Coast Guard.  Because the inspection and overhaul will require the ferry to be dry docked, the ferry will be out of service for six weeks.  Normal daily service will continue through January 4th − and we anticipate returning to normal daily service on February 18.

The Jacksonville City Council is composed of nineteen members who are elected for a four-year term and serve as part-time legislators. In May of each year, the Council elects a President and Vice President to serve one-year terms beginning the first of July. The nineteen members are not all elected in the same manner; some are elected from districts, and others are elected at large.

Jacksonville City Council Member Bill Gulliford Introduces Human Rights Ordinance with Referendum Requirement

Today I have filed the same Human Rights Ordinance that was voted on by the Jacksonville City Council in 2012 with one addition – a provision for a referendum by the voters on the issue. As a courtesy, I waited until after Mayor Curry’s final community conversation event on this topic before acting.

Murray Hill Branch Library Service Suspended Until Further Notice

The Jacksonville Public Library is suspending service at the Murray Hill Branch Library until further notice. The library, located at 918 Edgewood Ave. S., has sustained interior flooding and other damage due to a main water line break that leaked through the foundation into the building.

When it comes to the annual football game the city of Jacksonville has hosted for 82 consecutive years, there’s more than just yards gained and points scored on the gridiron. The citizens of Jacksonville benefit greatly from the economic wins of Florida-Georgia weekend. This year’s game, hosted Oct. 31, generated an economic impact of $35 million – a more than $2 million increase from 2014.
