City Kicks Off National Travel and Tourism Week

Mayor Lenny Curry and City Council President Greg Anderson joined Visit Jacksonville in the Atrium of City Hall on Monday, May 2, to kick off National Travel and Tourism Week. The week-long events highlight the significant role travel and tourism play in the city's local economy.

The events include:

  • Tuesday: Rally in Red, wear something red to demonstrate travel’s positive impact on local workers, businesses and economies.
  • Wednesday 5 p.m.-9 p.m. First Wednesday Art Walk: Visit Jacksonville’s Visitor Center, 208 N. Laura St. Suite 102, Visit Jacksonville joins First Wednesday Art Walk, a monthly downtown event.
  • Thursday: “Thank you Thursday!” Visit Jacksonville will thank visitors giving out free postcards, buttons, and other fun giveaways.
  • Friday: “Pay it Forward Friday” 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Beach Clean Up at Jacksonville Beach Pier, 503 1st St. N., Jacksonville Beach.


According to reports, Jacksonville hosts 16,000 visitors on any given day, and those visitors spend an average of $48 per second in the local economy. Tourism business sales save Jacksonville taxpayers an average of $550 per household.
