Filing for a Homestead Exemption
Timely homestead exemption applications may be filed by mail, fax (904-255-7963) or email (pacustserv@coj.net) with the Duval County Property Appraiser's Office. The application and detailed instructions are available below. When filing by hand, please use black ink. To be eligible for Homestead Exemption, you must own and occupy the home on January 1st of the year in which you make application. The deadline to file is March 1.

Submitting Your Homestead Exemption Application - Your application(s) once completed, may be filed in person at our office, faxed to (904)255-7963, e-mailed as a scanned document to pacustserv@coj.net, or mailed to Duval County Property Appraiser, Attn: Homestead Exemptions, 231 East Forsyth Street, Suite 260, Jacksonville, Florida32202 by March 1. After March 1, the application is late. See below.
Late Filing - If you are filing after March 1 for the current year, you must physically apply in the Property Appraiser's Office. Late filers who were unable to file timely due to extenuating circumstances may file from March 2 through the 25th day following the mailing of the Notices of Proposed Property Taxes in August. This deadline is set by state law. (The deadline typically falls in early September, however, you may call (904)255-5900 during mid-late August to verify the date.) An explanation form is required outlining the reason for filing late.
