April 10th, 1942 at 10:20 pm, the S.S. Gulf America was struck by a torpedo from German U-boat 123. Historic accounts state the U-boat fired only one torpedo at the Gulf America and then used gun fire to further damage the ship. The Gulf America completely sank a few days later reportedly on the 16th of April.
