Located in southwest Jacksonville, the parks reside in the Lakeside Park subdivision that was initially platted by the Riverside Realty Co. in 1907. The extension of the streetcar line from downtown Jacksonville in 1908 facilitated the development of Lakeside Park and nearby Ortega, both of which were annexed by the City in 1925. A concrete waiting station for the streetcar existed at the site that later became Park II. Shown as a park on the original plat, the .75-acre Park I is a triangular parcel with many oak trees of varying size. Park II, which was established in the 1950’s or early 1960’s, is a smaller, oblong tract with more open space and fewer but more picturesque trees. Both passive parks present a nice setting and provide benches for peaceful relaxation.
