Chapelgate Park is located in Mandarin’s Chapelgate neighborhood, near the intersection of I-295 and Old St. Augustine Road. In 1999, a local builder attempted to remove the largest live oak tree remaining in the subdivision. The residents protested and were given seven days to purchase the lot containing the tree. The efforts of Councilman Dick Kravitz and the support of Mayor Delaney resulted in the City’s purchase of the property and financing of the park’s construction. It consists of three benches, sidewalks, landscaping, irrigation, and a wooden deck, all canopied by the mighty oak. And the Chapelgate Homeowners Association signed an Adopt-A–Park Agreement with the City, agreeing to maintain the new park.
