Closures
Huguenot Park at times experience closures due to high tides, capacity or unsafe conditions. During this period, Management will close the park for admissions and/or for beach driving. The closure of the park is a hard closure which will not allow any visitors, campers or shelter reservations in until the event is over and the park is re-opened.
Seasonally (before Memorial Day and after Labor Day) the north end of the peninsula will be closed to vehicles due to nesting shorebirds protected by the Migratory Bird Act.
Did you know that every summer JaxParks is home to one of the largest seabird colonies on the east coast? The seabird colony at Huguenot Memorial Park is made up of Laughing Gulls, Royal Terns, Brown Pelicans, and Sandwich Terns. Seeing thousands of birds and their chicks on the beach is quite a sight, and a real treat! At this park, beach driving is permitted along most of the seaward shoreline but is subject to seasonal closures for nesting. Beach driving poses a danger to wildlife; while you are having a relaxing beach day, these animals are trying to survive. Seabird populations are in decline globally which makes this site more important. Beachgoers are expected to abide by the 5mph speed limit, respect closures and avoid driving through flocks of birds. Failure to do so may result in the death of these baby birds, all of which are federally protected. The next time you stop into the park, we encourage you to ask park staff and volunteer bird stewards about the different species that call this beach home
Huguenot Memorial Park main roadway had been compromised by erosion along the St. John’s River. Electrical infrastructure had to be relocated and the roadway was impassable. A temporary road has been constructed to allow the park to open.
