Forum Planned to Help Classified Greenbelts Understand Local Property Laws/Regulations

September 01, 2006

Jacksonville City Council Member Glorious Johnson, Chair of the City's Value Adjustment Board, is pleased to announce an Agriculture/Greenbelt Forum to be held on Monday, September 25, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon in the Renaissance Room, 1st floor, Jacksonville City Hall, 117 West Duval Street in downtown Jacksonville.

The Forum, co-sponsored by the City of Jacksonville, the Duval County Property Appraiser and the Division of Forestry, is designed to help Jacksonville's Agriculture/Greenbelt Recipients understand their eligibility for the classification, and the process and timeline for applying for such classification. Presenters will include the Value Adjustment Board Chair Glorious Johnson, Greenbelt Property Appraiser Marc Willis, Division of Forestry Carolyn Dawson and the City of Jacksonville Agriculture Department Rick Godke, who will explain how and when to make application for the classification, and how and when to appeal adverse decisions regarding qualification for the classification.

Councilwoman Johnson organized the forum in response to her position as Chair of the Value Adjustment Board, when approached by several Agriculture/Greenbelt Recipients who either did not file in a timely manner, or were disqualified from receiving the classification either totally or partially, because some or all of their property did not qualify for the status sought. Her hope is that the recipients will take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to qualify for the classification to which they are entitled and to avoid penalties and fees for late filings or appeals.

Further information or comments may be obtained from Carol Owens, Assistant VAB Clerk, City Council Office, 630-1683.
