At the City Council Officers Installation Ceremony on Tuesday evening, June 29, 2004, Council President Lad Daniels selected Councilman Warren Alvarez of District 11, from among his colleagues, as the recipient of the Council's most prestigious internal honor, the Charles D. Webb Award. Although out of town for the event, Councilman Alvarez was selected by President Daniels for his extraordinary commitment to the betterment of our city.
Daniels shared, with the large crowd gathered for the event, just a few other reasons why he selected Councilman Alvarez as this year's recipient. 'He has deep roots in this community. His sense of history provides him incredible insight in helping shape the destiny of our region for current and future generations.' He added, 'His love of family is reflected in his marriage of more than 50 years.'
When Councilman Alvarez was presented with this award upon his return, he commented, 'I know how hard this Council works. We have had a difficult but challenging year, and I am proud of this recognition from someone whom I admire so much.'
Councilman Alvarez has served on the Council since 1999. For the year 2003-2004, he served as chairman for the Finance Committee and the Special Committee on Small and Disadvantaged Business. His Council District 11 is the largest area-wise in Duval County, encompassing approximately 1/3 of the geographic area incorporated in our consolidated city spanning from Mayport to Argyle.
