Jacksonville City Council member Mia Jones was recently appointed to serve as Chair of the Florida League of Cities Home Rule Administration, Legislative Policy Council.

The League currently has four legislative policy councils. Council members are appointed annually for a one-year term to establish positions and priorities on issues affecting their particular policy area. The councils will address and consider broader municipal issue areas that will be considered by the Legislature.

The issues of the four councils are then combined into one document and submitted to the Legislative Committee for review, amendments and approval. That consolidated statement is then brought before the League's membership for final adoption.

'I am excited to have the opportunity to help establish legislative priorities on our various municipal issues to benefit all of the cities and citizens of Florida.' Council Member Jones served as Vice Chair of the Criminal Justice Committee last year.

This council addresses issues such as building codes, code enforcement, community redevelopment, Home Rule Powers, liability, personnel, collective bargaining, retirement, public safety, sunshine law, transportation, and utilities.
