The Jacksonville City Council will start televising two of their standing committee meetings in an effort to provide more information for the public. The two meetings, held during each 1st and 3rd week, are the Finance Committee along with the Land, Use & Zoning Committee. Comcast will begin to delay broadcast these meetings starting tomorrow, Tuesday, May 4, 2004, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and the meetings will run all during the week on Cable Access Channel 24 (Broadband 29). The first few weeks will serve as a test to determine viewing interest and feasibility for future airings.
Since most work, discussion and debate is done at the committee level well before any issue gets to a Council meeting, and most committee meetings are held during the work day, the City Council is looking at alternate ways to make these committee meetings more accessible to the public.
