Jacksonville City Council President Michael Corrigan (Council District 14) will participate in a ground-breaking ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26th to kick off construction of the Murray Hill Town Center infrastructure improvement project. The ceremony, to be held at the corner of Edgewood Avenue and Post Street in the Murray Hill district, will signal the start of the approximately six month project that will restore and revitalize the Edgewood Avenue commercial corridor through the reconstruction of sidewalks, the milling and repaving of the street, installation of new historic-style street lights, new landscaping, and the retention and expansion of the current angled on-street parking. In addition, the JEA has already begun work in the area to improve the appearance of overhead utility lines by the replacement of aging poles and the removal of power lines crossing the street, where possible.

The Town Center improvements will be made along Edgewood Avenue from Mayflower Street on the south to Kerle Street on the north, and should be complete before the end of the year.

According to Council President Corrigan, 'Through the perseverance of the Murrary Hill community since 2003 when the first visioning sessions took place, the Town Center improvements will finally take place! The excitement generated by the First Block improvements will hopefully carry over to this longer stretch of Edgewood Avenue and, although construction costs have risen dramatically over the past few years, these right-of-way improvements will beautify the corridor and help to again make Murray Hill the great 'walkable' community it once was.'
