City Council Member Lad Daniels Receives 2006 'Charles D. Webb' Award

July 06, 2006

During the June 29th Jacksonville City Council Presidential Installation, Immediate-past President Kevin Hyde announced City Council Member Lad Daniels as the recipient of the 2006 'Charles D. Webb' Award. The City Council's most prestigious internal award, the Webb Award is bestowed annually by the outgoing President to the Council Member that best exemplifies the extraordinary commitment to public service demonstrated by the late Charles D. Webb during his years on the City Council.

In his remarks, Hyde recognized Daniels for his willingness to tackle the difficult and often unpleasant task of thoroughly reviewing the way the Council and the City manages its affairs. As Chair of the Special Committee on Conducting Jacksonville's Business, Daniels and fellow committee members have examined existing rules and processes for surplus property, contract administration and use of public monies in public projects and public-private partnership.

When accepting the award, Daniels emphasized that he was but one of 19 members of a Council dedicated to the betterment of the City. Daniels added, 'I am proud of the work of the Special Committee on Conducting Jacksonville's Business, proud of the legislation introduced when I was Council President regarding small and emerging businesses and very proud of the Faces of Jacksonville,' an ongoing camp he and his wife Carol started three years ago.

Daniels was elected to the Council in 1999 and re-elected in 2003. He has served on most of the Standing Council Committees and was chair of the Military Affairs Committee and the Special Committee on Legislative Issues. Daniels will serve as chair of the Rules Committee for the 2006/2007 Council Year. He is president of Daniels and Associates, Inc., and the First Coast Manufacturers Association.
