City Earns Highest ISO Quality Rating, Officials Announced Today

Jacksonville Now Largest City in the Nation with Distinction 
 
Officials from Insurance Service Office (ISO) joined City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) leadership today to announce that the City of Jacksonville has earned the highest ISO rating it awards. The Class 1 distinction, held by only 140 out of 48,000 fire departments throughout the country, makes Jacksonville the largest city in the nation with the top classification, and one of only 19 fire and rescue departments in the state.
 
“This is a big win for our city,” said Mayor Lenny Curry. “It clearly demonstrates the level of quality, excellence and commitment JFRD has to the public safety of our citizens.”

City Offices and Facilities Closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

29th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast

Mayor Lenny Curry and the City of Jacksonville invite you to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the 29th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast presented by Florida Blue. The breakfast will include a keynote address from New York Times Best-selling Author Dr. Sampson Davis, essay readings by Tomorrow’s Leaders award recipients, and a live performance by the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus.

Coast Guard Inspection

January 04, 2016

On January 5, 2016, the ferry will begin an inspection and overhaul as periodically required by the United States Coast Guard.  Because the inspection and overhaul will require the ferry to be dry docked, the ferry will be out of service for six weeks.  Normal daily service will continue through January 4th − and we anticipate returning to normal daily service on February 18.

The Jacksonville City Council is composed of nineteen members who are elected for a four-year term and serve as part-time legislators. In May of each year, the Council elects a President and Vice President to serve one-year terms beginning the first of July. The nineteen members are not all elected in the same manner; some are elected from districts, and others are elected at large.
