The City of Jacksonville and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful will partner with the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol for the annual July 5^th Beaches Cleanup following the Independence Day holiday.

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Jacksonville area added 22,700 new private-sector jobs in the last year. Jacksonville’s unemployment rate was 3.8 percent in May, down 0.6 percentage point from one year ago. Statewide, Florida businesses created 21,900 new jobs in May and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.3 percent, the lowest rate since August 2007. Since December 2010, Florida businesses have created 1,377,100 new private-sector jobs.

The City of Jacksonville encourages citizens to educate and protect themselves and their families from mosquito-borne diseases.

School’s out for students throughout the city, but nearly 350 kids are heading to work. As participants in the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, boys and girls, ages 16-21, will be provided an opportunity to explore career pathways in a variety of professional industries including education, business, medicine, government, sports and more. From shadowing nurses at Baptist Health, to serving as Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Explorers, youth will gain hands-on experience and information that will aid them in developing their career choices.
