FSCJ Launches Program to Help Students Attend College

This morning, Mayor Lenny Curry joined Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) to announce the first program in the state to provide a debt-free pathway to college completion. FSCJ Promise is leading the College Promise initiative in Florida to provide more access and opportunity to eligible students in Duval and Nassau counties who otherwise might not be able to attend.

Following a meeting with Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) announced it will conduct a $250,000 study of downtown access to and from the Hart Bridge. Mayor Curry has championed the prospect of upgrading the 50 year old bridge by replacing its ramps.

The Jacksonville Ethics Commission is currently accepting applications for a vacancy on the Ethics Commission. The Ethics Commission has a long, distinguished history in the City of Jacksonville of ensuring transparent and open government for the citizens.  Among its many outstanding accomplishments, the Ethics Commission has drafted and implemented the Jacksonville Ethics Code and successfully assisted in the establishment of an independent Office of Ethics, Compliance and Oversight that is primarily responsible for administering the Ethics Code.

Gov. Scott Announces More Than $16 Million in Research Grant Awards to Cure Cancer and Tobacco-Related Diseases

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that over $16 million in research funding was awarded to 16 different projects through the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program and the James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program. These funds, dispersed among a number of universities and cancer research centers across the state, will support researchers in their efforts to improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment and to develop cures for cancer and tobacco-related diseases.
