Councilman Rory Diamond to Hold a Signing Ceremony for the Fire Watch

November 6, 2019 – Councilman Diamond, joined by Mayor Curry, Representatives from the Northeast Florida Commissions and representatives from various veterans’ organizations, will host a signing ceremony for The Fire Watch. The Fire Watch is a coordinated effort between the City of Jacksonville and the counties of Baker, Clay, Nassau and St. John’s to end veteran suicide in our region. The City of Jacksonville will serve as the legal home of The Fire Watch and coordinate with the surrounding counties via inter-local agreements. Through a series of partnerships and collaborations between local, state, and federal agencies, private donors, media entities, and regional and national non-profits, The Fire Watch will coordinate an effort to organize existing resources to combat the veteran suicide epidemic locally.

Jaguars Announce $58,000 in Grants to Local Nonprofits Serving Military and Veterans

Jaguars President Mark Lamping joined Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry at a press conference today inside City Hall to announce the 2019 recipients of the Jacksonville Resource and Reintegration Center community grants. The Jaguars Foundation and the City of Jacksonville’s Military Affairs and Veterans Department awarded $58,000 to military and veteran-serving organizations throughout the community.

Legendary rivalry to continue tradition at TIAA Bank Field

Mayor Lenny Curry is excited to announce that there is an agreement to keep one of our nation’s biggest football rivalry games in Jacksonville. Since 1933, the City of Jacksonville and TIAA Bank Field have been the home of the Georgia-Florida game. Under the new agreement, Curry confirms that tradition will continue through 2023, with an added option to keep the game in Jacksonville two additional years, until 2025.
 

Jacksonville Public Library Teaches You How to Grow Your Groceries

You want to grow your groceries, but there are so many questions: Where should I put my garden? What should I grow and when? How much space does everything need? The Jacksonville Public Library is hosting a free class on how to take the first steps toward growing fruits and vegetables in your own back yard. Urban farmer and educator Nathan Ballentine (aka Man in Overalls) will be on hand to teach attendees how to grow food for self and neighbor in raised bed food gardens.

Job Fair for Displaced Employees of Simulated Gambling Establishments

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., October 21, 2019 – More than 40 businesses and service providers are participating in this job fair for displaced employees of simulated gambling establishments. (Participants listed at end of press release.) The job fair is Thursday, October 24, 2019 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The event will be held at Emmett Reed Community Center located at 1093 West 6th Street, Jacksonville, FL 32209. While this job fair is designed to assist those affected by the closing of these establishments, this job fair is open to the public.
