Lightning is one of the most underrated severe weather hazards, yet ranks as one of the top weather killers in the United States. Lightning strikes in America kill about 50 people and injure hundreds of others each year. Unlike other weather hazards that often involve sophisticated watches and warnings from NOAA’s National Weather Service, lightning can occur anywhere there is a thunderstorm.

Gov. Scott: Jacksonville Area Added Nearly 23,000 Jobs Over the Year

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Jacksonville area added 22,800 new private-sector jobs in 2016. The area’s unemployment rate was 4.4 percent in December, dropping by 0.1 percentage point in the last year. Florida businesses created 237,300 private-sector jobs across the state during 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,262,100 jobs.

Florida businesses created 237,300 private-sector jobs across the state during 2016, bringing the total number of jobs created since December 2010 to 1,262,100 jobs.

Jacksonville Native Selected to Serve on JEA Board

 Jacksonville native Rev. Frederick Newbill was recently appointed by Mayor Lenny Curry to serve on the JEA Board of Directors. Newbill fills the position vacated by Warren Jones who resigned last year to serve on the Duval County School Board.

Jacksonville is getting a second Amazon fulfillment center, adding 1,000 more jobs to the 1,500 Amazon will create. The news comes only six months after the initial announcement to build a center on the city’s northside.
