Mayor's Citywide Health Fair
February 22, 2014
9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Blue Cypress Community Center
4012 University Boulevard
Jacksonville, Florida 32277
This weekend the City of Jacksonville and Get Covered America, along with Planned Parenthood, the Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida, Sulzbacher Center and the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida are hosting a citywide enrollment fair, the second in a series of events featuring the newly-formed health care coverage partnership between Mayor Alvin Brown and community health groups.
Trained representatives will be on-site to assist in the application and enrollment process for the selection of the optimal health insurance plan. All new plans will cover key benefits like preventative care, hospital visits, and prescriptions. The partnership, launched in January of this year, gives First Coast residents the opportunity to find out about their affordable health insurance options and the financial help that’s available.
“The health of our people is essential to the health of our community,” said Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown. “The Health Fair is a great opportunity for people to get one-on-one help to learn about the available health insurance options and choose a plan that’s right for their needs and budget.”
Saturday’s enrollment fair builds off of January’s successful kickoff at Legends Community Center, where many residents were able to get assistance enrolling in affordable, quality health coverage. The coalition will be hosting events throughout Duval County up until the March 31 open enrollment deadline.
Before the October 1 launch of the health insurance Marketplace, there were approximately 157,000 uninsured in Duval County that could now benefit from new, affordable health coverage options. For the second reporting period in a row, Florida continues to lead the nation in new enrollees among all states with a federally run marketplace, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
