America’s Promise Alliance and Mayor Alvin Brown for a GradNation Community Summit featuring Alma Powell, the chair of America’s Promise Alliance, nationally recognized education experts Dr. Howard C. Stevenson, professor of education and Africana studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and Dr. Robert Balfanz, co-director of the Everyone Graduates Center and a researcher at the Center for Social Organization of Schools at Johns Hopkins University.
Hundreds of dedicated individuals, educators, business leaders, and community organizations will come together to examine local data, identify best practices, and address challenges in Jacksonville’s efforts to increase high school graduation rates and better prepare young people for success.
Afternoon breakout sessions will include panel discussions on early childhood education, literacy and grade-level reading, mentoring and support for at-risk middle school students, and African-American male achievement.
