2013 Preservation Awards

In celebration of National Preservation Month, the Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission will honor 22 projects and services at their annual awards ceremony.
This annual awards ceremony recognizes outstanding projects and services that promote historic preservation in the Jacksonville area. Award categories include: Heritage Education, Residential Rehabilitation, Commercial Rehabilitation, Architecturally Compatible New Construction, Preservation Projects and Services, and Great Save. The awards will be presented by the Historic Preservation Commissioners with Chairman Angela Schifanella acting as master of ceremony.

The 2013 Preservation Awards will honor the following:

  • “Fifty Years Ago This Week” in Financial News and Daily Record
  • Historic Riverside Avondale: Jacksonville's Hidden Gem (Airport Art Exhibit)
  • Jacksonville by Design:  AIA Celebrates 100 Years of Architecture Exhibit (MOSH)
  • An Architectural Masterpiece: The St. James Building, 100 Year Celebration and Exhibit
  • Jax Pop Up History by the Jacksonville Historical Society
  • Front Porch Stories (Mandarin)
  • James Weldon Johnson Heritage Tour
  • San Marco by Design : A Smart Growth Plan for North San Marco
  • Historic Springfield Main Street Cruise
  • Greenleaf and Crosby Clock Restoration (Downtown)
  • Gloria DeVall for maintaining and monitoring Springfield's forgotten homes
  • Mobile Web Application for Historic Springfield by Johannes Ullrich
  • Michael Lawson for his documentation and preservation of cemeteries
  • Residential rehabilitation of 1619 Challen Avenue (Riverside-Avondale)
  • Residential rehabilitation of 3012 Oak Street (Riverside-Avondale)
  • Residential rehabilitation of 3665 Pine Street  (Riverside-Avondale)
  • Commercial rehabilitation of 1060–1068 Park St. (Derby on Park in Riverside Avondale)
  • Commercial rehabilitation of 2111 N. Liberty St. (Paul Davis Restoration in Springfield)
  • Commercial rehabilitation of 1342 North Laura Street (Springfield)
  • The architecturally compatible new construction at 3710 Richmond Street
  • Relocation and rehabilitation of Historic St. Paul's-By-The-Sea Episcopal/Beaches Chapel
 
National Preservation Month was created by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to spotlight grassroots preservation efforts around the country.  Communities take this time to celebrate historic preservation activities in order to create greater public awareness, understanding and appreciation of efforts to preserve local historic resources and heritage.
