10th Annual Fair Housing Awareness Symposium

The City of Jacksonville Human Rights Commission is hosting panel discussions for residents interested in how to make their homes more accessible for the aging and disabled population.
The Jacksonville Human Rights Commission is holding its 10th Annual Fair Housing Awareness Symposium. This year’s theme is “Opening Doors to Fair Housing.” The event will focus on disability and the aging population. The goal is to provide residents with information and resources to remodel or redesign portions of their home for the disabled and aging population. Participants will also be able to hear panel discussions on trends in design and construction, barriers to accessible housing, fair housing requests for reasonable accommodations/modifications and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
 
Participating organizations include Ability Housing of Northeast Florida, the City of Jacksonville Disable Services Division, the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc., Independent Living Resource Center, the City of Jacksonville Housing and Neighborhoods Department, Home Sweet Accessible Home and Eldersource.

Free parking is available at the Duval Street Parking Garage. Childcare for ages 4-12 is available in the Kids Zone at the library. Requests for special needs must be received by April 6, 2012.
 
This event is made possible through a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) acquired by the City of Jacksonville Housing and Neighborhoods Department, the City of Jacksonville Human Right’s Commission, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Inc.
