May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Millions in the U.S. are affected by mental illness each year. The Safety and Crime Reduction Commission (SCRC), in partnership with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), continues to work to end the stigma surrounding mental health care and provide helpful resources. Join commissioners at the next Community Bus Tour: Unity Day for Mental Health on May 21 from noon – 2 p.m. at Philippian Community Church, 7578 New Kings Rd.
Mental health experts and vendors will be on hand to share information with parents, children and the community. The goal is to let everyone know about the importance of mental health care so they can cope with the impact of violence, stress or trauma.
This is a free event for the whole family. There will be games and food. This is the third SCRC and JTA Community Bus Tour. It has made stops on the Eastside and in Arlington (Justina neighborhood) to let residents know that help is available.
