Mayor Joins Local Youth in Journey To ONE
June 02, 2016
School is almost out for thousands of students throughout Jacksonville. With a goal to stay healthy and physically active during the summer months, local students at Holiday Hill Elementary pleadged to continue a school tradition while on vacation – The Morning Mile! Throughout the school year, Holiday Hill students, school administrators, faculty and parents, walk (or run) a mile around the school’s track to begin their day.
Demonstrating his commitment to Jacksonville’s
Journey to ONE health initiative, Mayor Lenny Curry joined Holiday Hill students on their final Morning Mile this year. Mayor Curry seeks to inspire and encourage Jacksonville’s youngest citizens to stay active while on summer vacation.
The Morning Mile is a national program aimed at improving the health and wellness of children by increasing their physical activity and decreasing childhood obesity. The program is a before-school walking/running activity that provides children the opportunity to start each day in an active way, while enjoying fun, music and friends.
Journey to ONE is a citywide health initiative to provide, strengthen and bolster initiatives that improve personal and community health throughout Jacksonville. The mission of Journey to ONE is that every one in every ZIP code lives well.
