City of Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry is issuing a directive to change City employment-related policies and practices to comply with all federal and state laws. This policy change precludes and prohibits all forms of employment discrimination, upon any basis, as currently interpreted by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. This directive also applies to vendors who provide goods and services to the City of Jacksonville.
In a memo to employees released this afternoon, Mayor Curry stated, “these actions move our city forward, while demonstrating my commitment to defending individual rights and promoting respect and equality in our workplace.”
Last November, Mayor Curry began a series of Community Conversations designed to inform and engage stakeholders in a discussion about discrimination. Professionals from business, faith, and family-serving organizations participated in panel discussions that included the following topics:

Religious Freedoms, Thoughts & Beliefs

Understanding the Law & Its Effects on Business
Thousands of citizens participated in the meetings with nearly 500 submitted comment cards and responses.
