Mayor Lenny Curry proposes long-term funding solution to Jacksonville’s infrastructure needs
This morning, Mayor Lenny Curry announced plans for the “Jobs for Jax” program. The “Jobs for Jax” program, in partnership with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), would address transportation and infrastructure needs with a $.06 cent increase to the Local Option Gas Tax (LOGT). This proposed tax would fund nearly $1 billion in projects to improve railways, fix drainage issues and create jobs. The City and JTA would evenly split the $.06 increase.
“With these funds, we will move quickly to begin work on as many transportation projects in the Capital Improvements Plan as we can, which means more construction jobs, safer and better-quality roads, and more economic opportunities for our neighborhoods,” said Mayor Curry.

Unlike property tax, gas tax dollars are mandated to be used for transportation investments. If approved, “Jobs for Jax” would provide the crucial and continual funding needed for infrastructure improvement regardless of future administrations. Everyone who uses Duval County roadways will fund their improvements,
including the estimated 96,000 out-of-county commuters who drive on Duval County roads daily.
Currently, Duval County is only one of 12 Florida counties that assess the minimum of $.06 per gallon. By increasing the gas tax from $.06 cents to $.12 cents, Duval County would be joining the 31 counties in the state that already exercise the local option gas tax.
