“As cities across the country are looking to save money and streamline operations, technology plays a major part accomplishing these goals in Jacksonville,” said Mayor Curry. “Ken has been a key player and leader in the city’s information technologies efforts for many years, and he brings a wealth of institutional knowledge. I am excited to have him lead our technologies efforts enhancing our mission to provide efficient services to taxpayers.”
Lathrop joined the City of Jacksonville in August 1987 and led many projects that improved operations and cost savings, including efforts to restructure teams within ITD that resulted in increased performance.
As a part of the Intra-Governmental Services Department, ITD supports the technology needs of all city departments, agencies and constitutional offices, as well as state-funded entities such as the Circuit Court and State Attorney’s Office. The division maintains 6,500 desktop devices, 10,500 radios, 6,000 telephones, 1,300 cell phones, and 1,100 network switches. It also supports multiple radio towers, fiber infrastructure, connectivity to all city-run buildings and 220 remote locations, two data centers, 300-plus applications and
several mobile apps.
