Mayor Lenny Curry faced off against Sheriff Mike Williams on Saturday, Feb. 13, in a charity basketball game to benefit the
Police Athletic League of Jacksonville (PAL) and their programs for Jacksonville youth. Team Mayor brought home the win, and the coveted gold basketball trophy, with a score of 78 to 69.
PAL provides sports programs, afterschool care, academic assistance, mentoring, and leadership development programs to help create brighter futures for more than 2,000 children in Jacksonville every year. Proceeds from the charity basketball game will provide scholarships for underprivileged kids to participate in organized sports, where they will learn social skills, character building and sportsmanship. PAL is unique among youth development programs because it builds respect, trust and friendship between youth and law enforcement officers, in addition to providing activities and programs for underserved children.
