MAVD Doubles Number of Veterans Served in First Three Years of Curry Administration
October 15, 2018
The
Military Affairs and Veterans department (MAVD) works diligently to meet the needs of members of the armed forces, veterans and their families, assisting them with filing claims and applying for social and educational assistance.
Staff assist veterans, their survivors and their caregivers seeking access to pensions, healthcare, disability ratings, G.I. Bill, and other earned benefits. The department also hosts and sponsors city-wide events to recognize the service and sacrifice of military personnel serving at area installations, as well as the large, growing veteran population in Jacksonville and throughout northeast Florida.
In recent years, the Military Affairs and Veterans department has experienced tremendous growth and success in the services it is able to provide local veterans. In fiscal year 2014-15, the department served 4,917 veterans from Duval County. Three years into the Curry administration, the department served 9,980 veterans during fiscal year 2017-18, more than doubling the number of area veterans they serve.
