Jacksonville Public Library's Main Library opened Thursday, June 4 at 10 a.m. to provide service to the public. This is a continuation of the library's plan to safely reopen, following the guidance of Mayor Lenny Curry and the Board of Library Trustees. The Main Library's schedule has been temporarily adjusted to Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. closed Sundays
Customers and staff are observing health and safety measures for everyone's safety including, but not limited to:
- All customers and staff must submit to a touchless temperature check, complete a COVID-19 screening form and wear a mask at all times while inside the library.
- The first and second floors will be open. Runners will retrieve materials from the third and fourth floors as needed.
- Some public computers---appropriately distanced---are available on the first floor, and socially-distanced seating is in place.
The Library continues curbside pickup of holds at nine locations Tuesday through Saturday, and JPL Express locker service at the Oceanway Community Center is running again. With all library staff back at work across the system, curbside pickup service is likely to be expanded in the days ahead.
"We know that Jacksonville is eager to get back to normalcy, and that means visiting your neighborhood library. Parents needing resources for their kids, small businesses looking for opportunities, job seekers, lifelong learners, and anyone who wants to grow personally will now be able to access the library's collection in the Main Library or curbside throughout the county," Chief Librarian and Library Director Tim Rogers said. "We're back alongside Jacksonville to conquer this new world together."
All book drops are also open so customers can return books and materials they may have had before the closure. Due dates on materials out during the closure were extended until June 30 to give everyone plenty of time to get things retunrned. For customer and staff safety, all materials returned are being quarantined for 72 hours before they're put back into circulation.
