Mayor Lenny Curry recently announced that Chief Kevin L. Jones will be appointed as the city’s Fire Marshal. Jones is currently serving as the Interim Chief for Fire Prevention and has worked in Jacksonville’s Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) for the past 24 years supporting fire and rescue operations.
“I have tremendous confidence in Chief Jones’ ability to serve and support the citizens of Jacksonville,” said Mayor Curry. “He has consistently demonstrated a great work ethic, high level of professionalism, and a service-oriented attitude and commitment to public safety that will be of tremendous value to the organization.”
As Fire Marshal, Jones will lead the Fire Prevention Division directing and overseeing the division’s responsibilities such as ensuring all state adopted codes and standards for fire prevention are met, overseeing fire investigations, directing resources dedicated to fire prevention, and public fire education awareness.
Jones has 14 years of experience in the application of state fire codes and has moved through the ranks of firefighter to fire district chief, before his appointment to chief in July 2013. Jones is a graduate of the University of North Florida with a bachelor of science degree in political science, and minors in business administration and criminal justice. His salary will be $116,350.
